Warm and soft, really thick fur! Love these!
These sheepskin arch inserts are a quality, well made product. The hubby has been suffering from plantar fasciitis, so we’ve been adding supports to different shoes. Like many other inserts, you need to cut to size to fit appropriately, which he said was easy. Also, he is a 10.5 and I accidentally ordered an 11 but it was no issue. He decided to put them in a pair of leather lace up hunting boots, and has since had nothing but positive things to say. Apparently, they add cushion, support and added warmth, especially when hiking. That added support and comfort helps alleviate his foot pain, which he’s been complaining less about, so overall seems like a win!
These MelSyd Plantar Fasciitis Relief insoles are interesting. The underside is made from stiff, structured plastic, similar to what you might find on the bottom of other orthopedic insoles. The top is a thick layer of ?¨´sheepskin,?¨¬ and I can¡êat tell whether this is synthetic fur or actually made from a mammal¡êas outer coat.
I replaced the trusty but aging Spencos in my boots with these MelSyd insoles, and after a few minutes of adjusting to the different foot feel, I like them. You should know that these are thick, and require some available vertical room inside your shoes or boots. My old insoles already elevated me more than the standard ones that were ¡ê|built in,¡êa and these MelSyds add another quarter inch or more to that. After adding some slack to my bootlaces, I was able to insert my foot and adjust the tightness to a point where I¡êam snug but not cutting off circulation to my feet.
Within two minutes my feet felt warmer than before. The arch support is not very noticeable, but it is present. After an hour of wearing these, walking around the big blue home improvement store, my feet feel good. I expected my socks to be sweaty, given how warm the insoles look, but they were bone-dry. I normally experience heel pain when walking on concrete, but felt none with these in my boots. One bit of curiosity: how does one customize insoles ?¨´for the American foot shape??¨¬
I use the following rating scale:
5* I love it – it’s great, and somehow beyond expectations
4* I like it – item as described with no major faults
3* It’s okay – functional but some negatives that worsen or degrade the experience
2* I don’t like it – it could be better and I definitely would not buy it again
1* I hate it – VERY rarely used. Item was faulty, not at all as expected, and/or something that I feel should not be sold
These MelSyd plantar fasciitis relief insoles have been a great upgrade for my colder-weather footwear. The Cloud Merino Wool layer adds noticeable warmth and softness without feeling bulky, making them perfect for winter. The arch support is firm and stable, which really helps with long periods of standing or walking, and they handle my heavier work boots well thanks to the 250 lb heavy-duty rating. They fit comfortably, stay in place, and provide all-day comfort. A very solid choice if you need both support and warmth in your shoes.
Warm: check
Supportive: check
Cushioning: check
Thick: yes, but not so much it will be a problem
Quality: appears to be good
It is going to take some getting used to, but I think these are going to help me with my foot problems in cooler months. In the hotter months, I just wear sandals. I am looking forward to the temperature dropping so I can really try these and see how they work. So far, I am impressed and they have earned full marks–5 stars–if something changes my mind, I will revisit this review.
These will be awesome this winter. I can exchange them for my personalized arch supports as they seem to have the same profile. The wool will be so awesome for keeping my feet warm in the cold weather. The older I get, the harder it is to keep my extremities war. These cut well with sharp scissors so they would match my other insoles. They fit in both my shoes and boots because they are already sized to accommodate a support. They will be too thick for low profile shoes. I will be cozy and my feet will feel great all winter long.
Durable, breathable, and odor-resistant materials: Crafted with genuine sheepskin and moisture-wicking wool, these orthotic inserts are built to last. Thickness and fit add comfort with these insoles. With Arch support, say goodbye to sore heels and arches. They offer breathability and natural odor control for all-day wear in work boots, snow boots, or everyday footwear. I do recommend MelSyd Plantar Fasciitis Relief Insoles.
My son has suffered from foot pain for a long time, most likely as a result of countless games squatting behind home during his formative years. He tried the drugstore insoles, but didn¡êat find any relief from them, so I was eager to order the MelSyd Sheepskin Arch Support Insoles: Plantar Fasciitis Relief – Merino Wool Warm Orthotic Insoles with Poron Cushion for Flat Feet – Thermal Shoe Inserts for Winter – Standing All Day Comfort for him to try.
Pros:
Well-constructed
4 layers (top to bottom)
Australian ultra-thin sheepskin – cushioning, moisture-wicking
Advanced EVA Foam technology – lightweight, soft, responsive
High-tensile nylon arch support – promotes alignment/balance, fights fatigue
Poron – cushioning, shock absorption, not supposed to flatten out
Observations:
A close look reveals that these insoles are extremely well made from Mel&Syd, an Australian company that specializes in sheepskin boots.
The first order of business is to trim the insoles. You remove the insole from your shoe and trace it on the new one. There are guidelines at the front of the sole (see photo) to help guide you. WIth a sharp pair of scissors, trim carefully. It is better to be overly cautious and trim too little at first, before gradually cutting a little more until it fits well in your shoes.
Since the only size available to order was a large, I had to enlist my son¡êas help in evaluating comfort and support. Fortunately, he was able to slide them into his shoes without trimming.
His first reaction was that he loved the warmth and comfort provided by the sheepskin – perfect for upcoming winter months. He said it feels like he is wearing his slippers outdoors, but with more support.. The insert does not offer the same degree of support as provided in his pricey athletic shoes, but better than most regular shoes. The one thing he said was a little odd for him was the fact that the support didn¡êat extend the length of the shoe. He has worn them off and on the past few days and said that he is getting more used to them.
At the time of writing this review, the selling price is $59.99 including a $20 coupon, which honestly isn¡êat that bad, if you can swing it. (Personally, I always check the product¡êas return policy before ordering clothing and shoes.) For frame of reference I recently (over) paid $40 at my podiatrist¡êas for an over-the-counter pair of orthotics that didn¡êat have any sheepskin and weren¡êat as comfortable. Considering these are made with 100% Australian sheepskin with ?¨´insoles customized for American foot shape?¨¬ (whatever that means!), these seem to be a decent value.
Real sheepskin has such a wonderful feel and these insoles are no exception.
These are very nicely made insoles, the arch is not rigid to the point of being painful but firmly supportive. The cushioning allows for a good amount of the pounding on your feet to be blunted, so you can wear boots or shoes that might otherwise be unwearable.
I¡êad say if you have wide feet as a female or standard width with some extra, these should work well size wise. You can definitely trim them but keep in mind you want to keep the balance and placement of the arch where it belongs.
One of the best things about wool is that it¡êas a great insulator but also helps keep your feet cooler in the heat because it helps to wick away moisture. Whether your feet are hot because of weather or your boots aren¡êat breathing, wool is your friend.
Very comfortable in the right shoes. Because these insoles are thick, you¡êall want to add them to a pair of shoes that are rather loose on your feet. I put them in a shoe that is 1/2 size larger than I normally wear and they feel excellent. The plus sheep fur is such a pleasant and luxurious feeling. Very comfortable in cooler weather.
